The Election Situation Room (ESR) has noted the occurrence of By-elections in Mutoko North and Chegutu Rural District Council Ward 16. Mabel Chinomona was elected the Senate President, resulting in the Mutoko North National Assembly seat becoming vacant. The three (3) candidates contesting for this seat are Edson Mugoma of NCA Party, Boniface Mushore of
the MDC-Alliance, and Rambidzai Nyabote of the ZANU-PF party. The Chegutu Rural Council Ward 16 seat became vacant after ZANU-PF councillor, Silas Chikati, who had been declared duly elected in the 30 July 2018 harmonized elections passed away. The seat is being contested by three (3) candidates, Patricia Mapfurira of the NCA party, Norwell Tichaona Muchenje of the MDC-Alliance, and Simunya Obert Mutandinda of ZANU-PF. The Ward has 675 registered voters with three polling stations. The Chegutu Rural District Council Ward 16 and Mutoko North By-elections are set for the 24th November 2018. The ESR toll free call centre has been receiving phone calls from citizens in both areas sharing their views, information and concerns regarding the election taking place in their areas. The ESR has noted that incidents being reported are highlighting the partisan distribution of agricultural inputs, tearing down of candidates’’ posters and the use of hate speech.
